ADJECTIVE ORDER

เป็นที่รู้กันดีว่าคำคุณศัพท์ (Adjectives) เป็นคำขยายคำนามหรือสรรพนาม ซึ่งโดยทั่ว ๆ ไปแล้วมีวิธีการเขียนได้ 2 แบบ ดังนี้

1. เขียนคำคุณศัพท์ (Adjectives) หน้าคำนามที่ต้องการขยาย เช่น a beautiful house, a nice guy, an interesting program เป็นต้น

2. คำคุณศัพท์ (Adjectives) วางไว้หลังกริยา (Verbs) ดังต่อไปนี้ เช่น verb to be, become, get, seem, look, feel, sound, smell, taste

ตัวอย่าง :
I like big cars.
My car is big.

ซึ่งจริง ๆ แล้วเราสามรถใช้คำคุณศัพท์ (Adjectives) มากกว่า 1 ตัวในการขยายคำนามหรือสรรพนามนั้น ๆ ก็ได้ เช่น I like big black dogs. หรือ She was wearing a beautiful long red dress.

วิธีการจัดลำดับคำคุณศัพท์ (Adjectives) หลาย ๆ ตัวที่ใช้ในการขยายคำนามเดียวกันมีดังต่อไปนี้

1. opinion + fact + noun

เช่น a nice French car (not a French nice car)

"Opinion" คือ ความคิดเห็นต่อสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง ส่วน "Fact" ก็คือความจริงของสิ่งนั้น ที่ไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงได้

2. size + age + shape + colour + material + origin + noun

เช่น a big, old, square, black, wooden Chinese table.

3. ในกรณีที่มีคำนำหน้านาม หรือคำบ่งชี้ (Determiners) คำกลุ่มนี้จะต้องวางไว้ข้างหน้าเสมอ

articles (a, the)

possessives (my, your...)

demonstratives (this, that...)

quantifiers (some, any, few, many...)

numbers (one, two, three)
